None of Us Are Free: A Social Commentary on Systemic Racism

Sumiaya Nafeesah

My submission for this project is a documentary I constructed during the unrest in Philadelphia, Summer 2020. I collected images and interviews of local citizens amongst our city and across the world. This piece is entitled None of Us Are Free: A Social Commentary on Systemic Racism.—Sumaiya Nafeesah

Activism is the practice of campaigning for change. As a part of my activism, I decided to uplift and amplify the voices of the people around me who also want to see a change. This video was intended to be released on June 19th or Juneteenth, a holiday celebrating the emancipation of slaves in Texas. I decided to release this the day after as a form of protest. Slavery never ended, it was redesigned. None of us are free until all of us are free. Thank you to everyone who was gracious enough to use this voice and share their opinions. We cannot stop this fight.
